Kitty Margolis is a true jazz singer among a multitude of hopefuls. Kitty commands an eclectic repertoire ranging from bebop to blues to ballads to bossa nova. Growing up to the sounds of Count Basie, Ellie Fitzgerald, Lady Day and Duke Ellington, she taught herself guitar at a young age. At Harvard, she answered a Boston Phoenix ad for a singer and began performing on the New England club circuit. Quickly graduating to the more sophisticated genre of jazz, she returned home to the Bay Area and attended San Francisco State, where she studied under sax master John Handy. To complement her work as a performer, Kitty Margolis also works as a jazz educator, sharing her knowledge and experience with a growing number of students, both privately and in clinics.
