Martin Cohen is a native San Franciscan born in 1958. He began playing guitar in 1975, entering San Francisco State University as a Music Major specializing in composition. His studies encompassed a wide variety of musical styles, including classical and jazz.
He began studying flamenco in 1982 with Mariano Cordoba. He has studied all aspects of guitar playing within the art of flamenco, solo as well as dance and song accompaniment.
Highlights of his performing experiences include supporting major artists including the Gipsy Kings, Santana, Linda Ronstat, and Los Lobos.
His playing has been featured on recordings and films. Martin Cohen has appeared on local TV programs and the nationally televised Charles Kuralt Sunday extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Currently a member of San Francisco?s oldest Flamenco company, ?Theatre Flamenco of San Francisco?, Martin Cohen remains active in flamenco performance both in dance accompaniment and solo work.
