It may seem that Bruno Mars came onto the music scene out of nowhere, suddenly producing,
co-writing, and performing on B.O.B's "Nothin' On You" and Travie McCoy's
smash hit, "Billionaire." But one thing is clear, “It’s
not an overnight success.” Born to a musically talented family in Honolulu,
Hawaii, he was raised to be a star. His father was a Latin percussionist and his
mother was a talented vocalist. "My dad put me on stage and I remember singing
an Elvis song and that was it. Ever since that moment, I've been addicted”?(Mars.)
Once Bruno Mars graduated high school, he left for Los Angeles in hopes of catapulting
his career as a performer. This became a reality when he founded The Smeezingtons,
a production team. The team has produced including Flo Rida's "Right Round," Travie McCoy's "Billionaire,” and Brandy's "Long Distance.”
Bruno Mars signed with Atlantic Records in 2009 and released his very successful debut
album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans. He soon became a highly credited solo artist
with worldwide number one singles, “Just the Way You Are,” and “Grenade.
The album went on to be number three on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for
seven Grammys. Bruno Mars took home the award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performances for
“Just the Way You Are,” and his popularity grows daily.
