In 1966, Carlos Santanaformed the Santana Blues Band, which encompassed a blend of Latin rock, jazz, blues, and salsa. The bands early success started after a performance at Woodstock in 1969, which led to a recording contract with Columbia records. The group has released multiple hit records, and Carlos Santana experienced a renewal of popularity and critical acclaim in the late 1990s. Rolling Stone named Santana number 15 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time in 2003. He has won ten Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards.
