People often ask Jeanne Lauren, Artistic Director of Skyana Entertainment, "What does the name SKYANA mean?"
One would have to go back in time to 1970 when the name Skyana was only a poem about a magical land, and a large trunk of newly made puppets. It would be the beginnings of an entertainment career .....
Ten years of performing in various disciplines such as dance, stunt work, acting and puppetry evolved into the need to construct larger costume creatures which Jeanne began to inhabit. It was a perfect niche for this dancer/actress who was skilled in animation and character movement. Hundreds of hours were logged in large, difficult costumes for events and promotions.
In 1984 she was the official mascot for the Democratic Convention in San Francisco. Several very warm bird mascots inspired her "Keep your Beak to the Wind" motto.
Besides her diverse physical talents Ms. Lauren is an accomplished costume designer. Her work has been commissioned for TV commercials and film. A stint with Lucasfilm Creature Shop, wardrobe assistant in London working on Return of the Jedi, and commissions by the New York Metropolitan Opera and San Francisco Opera are just part of an overwhelming portfolio of commercial successes.
Presently with assistance from her associates she is responsible for over 400 costume characters. These unique walk around characters are masterfully brought to life by the best talent that the Bay Area has to offer. Jeanne's love of directing talent, makes her the consummate ringmaster.
Skyana Entertainment has evolved into something bigger than just one woman's showcase. It is the source for one of a kind, exquisitely designed costumed characters with the reputation for excellence in presentation.
