Dance Brigade

Since the time of Dance Brigade's inception in 1984, Dance Brigade has performed all over the world with thier high energy content driven materials. Aside from traditional venues, they have perfomed for women's studies programs, women's groups, and women's festivals, benefits, and coalitions. All of which is in support of a multitude of community and progressive causes.

In 1996, Krissy Keefer founded Wicked Witch Productions, a producing organization present dance/theatre that relfects the timeless concers of women. To that end, Wicked Witch has consistently promoted work that is women-identified and women-specific in content and form, ranging from the celebration of lesbian culture; challenges faced by women with regard to health issues, the enviroment, and the economy; ablism as it is manifested through hearing-impaired and physically-challenged women; and the multitude of stereotypes that thwart the growth and development of women around the world.

In 1997, in response to the changing model for dance companies in the U.S. and to co-artistic director Nina Ficher's relocation to the Midwest, Dance Brigade merged with Wicked Witch Productions and came under the artistic direction of Krissy Keefer. Aside from it's women's identified material Dance Brigade/Wicked Witch Production is known for it's multicurltural driven material, presentations and company members. Our goals are to build a thriving multicultural women identified arts community which actively seeks to share the lime light with colleges and emerging artists. During the first year of DBWWP's existence, the company co-founded (with Anne Bluethenthal & Dancers) the San Francisco Lesbian & Gay Dance Festival, an annual project that has received wide public and critical acclaim. That same year, Wicked Witch premiered "Ballet of the Banshees," a new work created by Krissy with Kim Epifano, which was also an overwhelming popular and critical success.
